How to Sell a Drone Fast: Unbind, Wipe, Price, Ship Safely

Speed in a drone sale comes from removing the buyer's reasons to hesitate. Every unanswered question — is it bound to your account, what are the cycle counts, has it been crashed, how will it ship — is a day added to the listing and a discount added to the offer. Do the work up front and the aircraft sells at a fair price in days, not months.

1. Price it from live numbers

Find your category above, then your brand and model on the value guide. Price a complete kit with healthy batteries at the median; price an aircraft-only listing or a tired battery set below it. Dealer asking prices on this site run above private-sale prices, so if you are a private seller, undercut the dealer median for the same model and it will move.

2. Unbind it from your account

1. DJI: in DJI Fly, open the aircraft's settings and check whether it is bound to your account; if so, unbind it. Do the same for a screen remote (RC, RC 2, RC Pro), which activates separately. Sign the remote out of your DJI account.
2. Skydio: remove the aircraft from your Skydio Cloud organisation or fleet so it shows as unmanaged.
3. Autel and Parrot: sign the aircraft and controller out of your app account and confirm a fresh pairing works.
4. FAA: remove the aircraft from your FAA registration. Registration belongs to you, not the drone; the buyer registers it themselves.

3. Wipe your data — but keep the proof

• Before you wipe anything, screenshot the flight-record summary (total flights, hours, distance) and the battery status screen for each battery. These are your best sales tools.
• Format the microSD card and the internal storage from the app, then remove the card.
• Clear cached flight logs and cached maps from the controller if it has a screen; sign out of every account on it.
• Reset the aircraft's Wi-Fi and any linked mobile devices; on remotes with a screen, do a factory reset last.

4. Photograph it like a dealer

• Aircraft from the front, both sides and underneath, arms unfolded, in daylight, on a plain surface.
• Close-ups of the gimbal and lens, each arm and each battery's contacts.
• The serial label, the flight-record summary and every battery's cycle count on screen.
• The full kit laid out: remote, batteries, charger, filters, case, box and manuals. A complete kit is the single biggest reason a listing sells first.
• Thirty seconds of footage from the aircraft, if you can host it — it answers the gimbal question before it is asked.

5. Ship the batteries legally

Drone flight batteries are lithium-ion or lithium-polymer and are regulated as dangerous goods. The rules below are the framework carriers apply; check your carrier's current requirements before you print a label.

• Batteries installed in or packed with the aircraft ship under different rules than batteries sent alone; packing them with the equipment is usually the simpler route.
• Most consumer flight batteries are under 100 watt-hours per battery, which is the threshold below which ground and domestic air shipping is generally permitted with the right labels. Check the watt-hour rating printed on each battery.
• Discharge to storage level (roughly half) before shipping, protect the terminals, and pack each battery so it cannot short or move.
• Never ship a swollen or damaged battery. Recycle it and sell the aircraft without it, described honestly.
• Declare the batteries on the shipping form. Undeclared lithium shipments are refused or destroyed, and you will not be reimbursed.

6. Get paid safely

• Local sale: meet in a public place, let the buyer activate the aircraft on their own account and fly a short hover, then take payment by a method that clears immediately.
• Shipped sale: take payment in full before shipping, through a service with seller protection, and ship with tracking and signature to the buyer's verified address.
• Refuse overpayment cheques, requests to ship to a third party, and any buyer who wants to pay before seeing the aircraft with an unusual method. These are the standard scams and they target drones because they are small and valuable.
